Not SF, but that exact thought occurred to me while driving around San Diego recently. I was looking at these charming (but LITTLE) houses built in the 1930s-’50s and thinking that they used to be owned by teachers, firefighters, mail carriers, cops, butchers, etc.
Now they’re all young executives, doctors rooming with laywers, etc. I never see kids in the older/nicer parts of those cities because I don’t think anyone can afford to have both kids and a house big enough to keep them in.
