it’s not about the size… by landmass I believe there are many US cities that outsize NYC. Population wise there are cities that outpace a bunch of China’s cities. Just because you zone a big chunk of land and cram a bunch of people there doesn’t make it a “great city” that puts others to shame. Show me another metropolitan center as complex, dense, and thriving, with as much history as NYC. Sure it’s much easier now with modern technology and forerunners to set the example.
The things that make NYC (not just manhattan FYI) great aren’t its skyline, population, location… no, it’s the people and culture. You find and show me a city in china that is as culturally diverse, where I can partake in over 20 different authentic cuisines within walking distance, or go to queens where there are more languages spoken than I can list. Or a center for the arts, fashion, technology, finance all in one place then I’ll give you statement “Puts our puny American cities to shame.” more merit.
